Is life feeling a little bit out of whack? Are the kids complaining yet about too much to do? Now that we are approaching the holiday season, this may be a good time to look around to see what you can scale back. Here are 3 quick tips to help your child go from being overwhelmed with too many demands to having time to enjoy what matters most and actually be present in those moments while savoring the memories.

Tip #1: Make a list of all of the activities that they are involved in. Go through the list and have a discussion with your child about what can be cut out of the schedule. Basically, you want to know what activities do not bring them joy.

Tip #2: Be okay with saying “no” sometimes. There will be plenty of demands placed on you and your family to participate in various activities and social gatherings. Be mindful of your time and your child’s time so that your family does not become unintentionally overwhelmed.

Tip #3: Intentionally reserve space in your schedule for down time. This will give your child a chance to decompress and rest in between demanding tasks and events. Make it a priority to schedule the time and place for your family to bring what gives you comfort, health, joy or whatever you most need now.
